The story takes its own time to unfold and by then, you already know the ending. You realise that you were cheated because the best parts of the film were in the trailer and there wasn’t more to offer!Īn actress of Nayan’s calibre is wasted with an underdefined character. Pattas deals with a formulaic story that is highly predictable from the word go. This film makes you all the more discontent only because of the impressive trailer.
Several sequences, which are meant to be funny or emotional just fall flat, without evoking any reaction from the viewer. But with all that, the only expectation is the need for good writing. The clichéd evil MLA who the hero is after, his rowdy henchman who has political ambitions, the comedy sidekicks of the hero who become emotional at the right time, the damsel in distress and the knight in shining armour – they are all here. We have seen hundreds of them and can possibly see a hundred more. There’s nothing wrong with clichéd stories. For the entire first half, you are left waiting for something amazing to happen except for brief moments when you laugh (most of them unnecessarily, for instance a forced dance number by Jabardasth Chammak Chandra and group and Prudhvi’s bathai comedy which becomes irritating towards the end). With nothing new to offer in terms of the plotline – a cop goes undercover to bring the evil out into the open – the film doesn’t even have a gripping narration to compensate that. He tries to ape the formula of situational comedy which was a result of the hero’s character in his previous film, and what they try to pull off as comedy, instead, goes on to become a series of gags which are unfunny and even irritating in this film.
